Have you ever heard of the #AskHerMore movement? It is a movement that was started last year for reporters to stray away from asking the same old lame-ass questions to the amazingly talented women on the red carpet. I mean “who are you wearing?” and the mani-cam just need to go to the wayside when you are dealing with the likes of Meryl Streep, Frances McDormand, and Kerry Washington. Of course, I, like most of you, am in fact curious about who they are wearing but I certainly do not think it needs to be the sole focus when women are interviewed on the red carpet. The interview focus with women compared to men is so vastly different. I love that Reese Witherspoon posted this image on her Instagram months ago to help spread awareness of the #AskHerMore movement when it was just launching:
One of my fave funny girls is Amy Poehler. I mean did you see her when she did not win yet again at the Emmys on Sunday night? The hoodie and the sunglasses. Hilarious. Well, her Smart Girls Organization resurrected this movement yet again with a brand new hashtag #SmartGirlsAsk for this year’s Emmy awards. Yet again the purpose was for reporters to focus on bringing interesting and empowering questions to the red carpet instead of the same ol’ same ol’. In fact, many celebs posted great questions via Twitter with the #SmartGirlsAsk hashtag. For instance, Britney Spears wants to know what book Emmy nominees would share with their younger selves, if given the chance. Shonda Rimes wants to know “What is the best career advice someone has given you?”
I think this movement is fantastic and is pointing in the right direction for sure. However, it seems this movement may have fallen on some deaf ears. Per the world wide web, Giuliana Rancic was definitely not embracing the #AskHerMore or #SmartGirlsAsk movement on Sunday night as she was workin’ the Emmy red carpet. Twitter was on fire. I didn’t see it myself but I guess she asked Padma Lakshmi about her fabulously glowing skin and her skin-care secrets since she is in her forties and looks so great (Padma essentially answered that happiness and contentment are her secrets) and chatted with Allison Janney about not eating bread. Lame.
I wasn’t aware of this movement until Monday so I thought it was interesting and worth posting on here. I can think of a million other interesting questions I would love to ask these ladies. You?
Hope everyone is having a great week.
