I am sort of freaking out over the look of gorgeous custom hoods in the kitchen. I especially love the ones with brass details. There are just sooo many gorgeous variations, it really just comes down to pretty much whatever floats your boat. A custom hood just completely elevates the look of your kitchen. Get ready. Get inspired.
I’LL HAVE WHAT SHE’S HAVING
India Hicks. I’m telling ya’ people, if you don’t know her, you must get acquainted…
Grew up in the hills of Oxfordshire, England. Went to school in Scotland. Studied photography in Boston. Modeled in Paris. Lived in New York. Stumbled upon Harbour Island, a tiny island in the Bahamas. Fell in love with a man and a gentler way of life. Mother of 5. Goddaughter to Prince Charles. Bridesmaid to Princess Diana. Daughter of David Hicks, the internationally renowned interior designer. Passionate horse rider. Scubadiver. Bungee jumper. Snow skier. Parachuter. Water skier. Hang glider. Marathoner. 3 design books under her belt. Need I say more…
India Hicks in my opinion just exudes the perfect blend of lovely British heritage (hey, my maiden name is Whittingham after all!) with the chillness of a bohemian island vibe. I kinda love that she bucked the system and lives a sort of runaway life on a teeny tiny island in the Bahamas. Rebel. I mean how easy and predictable would it have been for her to be married to an Earl and living the Downton Abbey life? Nope, not for India (named after her grandfather who was the last Viceroy of India) She has bigger fish to fry.
I was floored a few weeks back when I was made aware by a blog post written by Erin Gates that India Hicks recently launched her own lifestyle collection. As India states, her collection sums up a life well-lived. A life full of travel, adventure, family, and taking life from ordinary to extraordinary. Hence climbing into the Grand Canyon and the multiple 100-mile bike rides she has done for charity. I was intrigued. Now along with writing this blog, I am officially an India Hicks Style Ambassador. I love that this is the way she gets around on Harbour Island.
CASCADING
I have a friend who is in the process of building a brand spankin’ new home. I have to laugh as I have found myself daydreaming about all the wonderful options in regards to pretty much everything that has to do with designing a new home. The choices are pretty endless and honestly, overwhelming. However, one of the things that has caught my attention: waterfall edge counters. I love, love, love the clean look of them. To me these cascading beauties are unexpected and certainly make quite an impact.
